Bio:
Eleventh Hour Rescue received word of a pregnant cattle dog in South Texas in need of help. A shelter is no place for a momma dog to give birth to puppies. Rural shelters often do not have a vet on staff. The shelter workers thought that Brooke would give birth in about 2-3 weeks. Brooke's foster mom brought her home and shortly thereafter, Brooke began to give birth. Immediately it was clear that the puppies were very premature. Four puppies were born, but Brooke would not nurse them and actually was hostile towards them which is usually a sign that the mom recognizes that the puppies are either sick or too young to survive. All of the puppies were removed from the mom and a team of volunteers worked nearly round the clock bottle feeding the puppies and keeping them in a homemade incubator. Sadly, one by one all of the puppies passed away despite everyone's best efforts. Brooke eventually made it to New Jersey, none the worse for wear, and was adopted out to an active family who adores her. The Gemma Rose Project contributed towards veterinary care and supplies for Brooke's premature puppies.
