Adoption Location: New Jersey
Bio:
Tinsley was spotted in the Lockhart Texas shelter by some volunteers from NJ-based 11th hour rescue who were visiting the shelter. As the volunteers took Tinsley out of her kennel and walked her around, it became pretty clear that she had once belonged to someone and was desperate for human attention. The volunteers immediately decided to save her and worked with the fantastic staff and volunteers at the Lockhart shelter to find a Texas foster for her. Unfortunately when Tinsley got vetted it was discovered that she was heartworm positive. Shelters do not have the resources to vet every dog fully and provide that information to potential rescuers. Rescues have to commit to the dog with little health history, only to find out later it will cost hundreds or thousands of dollars to treat the dog before it can be adopted. Donations from individuals and companies like the Gemma project help to cover those costs so that rescues can help more dogs like Tinsley. Tinsley was treated for her heartworm and then transported to New Jersey where she was adopted out and is living the high life with a family who adores her.
